Jesus is better (pt 4)

 • Series: No Other Gospel

Galatians 2:15-21 This passage immediately follows Paul’s confrontation with Peter. Paul is making a powerful “either-or” argument, and this is the conclusion he wants us to see: Either I am a great sinner, and Jesus Christ is my loving Savior — OR — The love of Jesus is just a nice thought because I’m good enough to save myself. Three parts of Paul’s argument: The law is harder than you think (vs. 15-16) Your sin is deeper than you think (vs. 17-19) Jesus is better than you think (vs. 20-21) Sample Questions: Paul writes in verse 16, “by the works of the law no human being will be justified.” In other words, no one is good enough to merit salvation. No one is righteous enough to stand before God based on their moral performance. Why are we tempted to make the law easier to keep than it really is? Read verse 17. Accepting the depth of our sin is a key component of experiencing the love of God. The more we deny our need, the less we experience gratitude. We are found to be sinners when we get close to Jesus. When have you struggled to admit the depth of your sin? Read verse 20. Jesus Christ gave himself for us. No one else has ever loved us this way. If you meditated on Jesus’ love for you more often, how would that impact your obedience to God? Read verse 21. How does this verse help you see that trying to earn your righteousness dishonors Christ?
