 • Series: Devotion in a Divided World

Devotion in a divided world A series in 1 Samuel 1 Samuel is Biblical history in story-form. As you read the story, you begin to see that the key to flourishing in this world is learning how to be devoted to God in a divided world. Samuel’s final warning (1 Samuel 12:1-25) Two trials Seeking security without repentance A new chapter in the covenant The iron grip of God’s love Remember, or be removed Questions: Notice how Samuel establishes his credibility and integrity before putting Israel on trial. What does this teach us about godly leadership? Israel wanted a king because they were trying to get security without repentance. Instead of calling out to God, confessing sin, and asking for help - they wanted to trust in a human king and sweep their sin under the rug. What are some ways that you look for security outside of God? Look at verse 20. Israel is in the iron grip of God's love. God will not abandon them. If Israel would just fully trust in God's love, they could overcome their fears of insecurity and stop trusting in worthless, worldly things. Look at your life: Where do you need to more fully trust in God's love to overcome your fears and idolatry?
