As you read the story, you begin to see that the key to flourishing in this world is learning how to be devoted to God in a divided world. His unwise self-confidence led to making a poor decision. How would you describe the difference between healthy and unhealthy self-confidence? Read 1 Samuel 13:10-12. Saul was fearful about all kinds of things, but he had no healthy fear of the Lord. How does a healthy fear of God protect us from being crippled by worldly fears? Saul not only sinned, but he made many excuses and did not repent. His discipline was severe. God would raise up a new king. What does this teach us about the importance of repentance in God's eyes? How does the hope we have in Jesus help us not be ruled by fear?
