Filling the Holes of our Neediness (pt 5) (Matt Hadsall)
• Series: Family Culture
#1: We all have neediness that is a direct result of others’ failures. We are shaped by our past. This doesn’t mean we are defined by our past or that we can’t radically change. But we do need to recognize that our past deeply influences us. If we don’t process our past, we won’t understand our struggles. If we try to fill these needs on our own, it leads to destructive behavior. #2: We all have a tendency to make good things into God things. Sometimes Satan works most powerfully in our lives through the very best things. He convinces us to believe that we can accomplish great things with broken motives and impure hearts. We have to center ourselves around love, not pride or fear. #3: Filling the holes of our neediness. God shows us that loving Him is the key to filling our holes of neediness, and it’s more than just knowing what is right – it must be on our heart. We don’t just need a lecture. We need action, we need practical daily application. Sample questions for GCs: How have you been shaped by your past? In what ways have you failed to respond to your “holes” in a godly way? What good things have you made into God things in order to try and fill your holes? Is loving the Lord first just something you know, or are you striving to practice it? What do your daily & weekly practices look like?
