• Series: Lent 2022
Sermon Outline: #1: The prayer that guides all prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) #2: Why is prayer so important if God is sovereign? (Luke 18:1-8) #3: Does God answer all prayer? (Luke 11:5-13) The Lord’s Prayer is how Jesus teaches us to pray. It is the prayer that guides all prayer. The Lord’s Prayer leads us to pray about five major things: 1): God’s glory 2): God’s will 3): Our daily needs 4): Our sins and the sins of others 5): Deliverance from temptation and evil Even though God knows everything we need before we pray, we’re called to persevere in prayer because our faith perseveres through prayer. In one sense, God does answer all prayer. We are promised that if we seek, we will find and that if we knock, the door will be opened. God always hears our prayer and regards it. At the same time, God will only give us “fish and eggs,” to draw from the parable. In other words, He will never give us something that would ultimately hurt us, and sometimes we ask for things that we think would be best, but God always knows what is best. Sample Questions for GCs: Read the Lord’s Prayer. What part of it stands out to you right now in this season of your life and why? Would you characterize yourself as someone with a rich prayer life? If yes, share about how you maintain that. If no, share about some of the obstacles you need to overcome. Read Luke 11:11-13. Jesus says God only gives good gifts. He never gives us “snakes” or “scorpions.” If you truly believed this with full conviction, how would it help you face hardships and suffering?
