Seeing and Serving (pt 6)

 • Series: Lent 2022

Sermon Outline: #1: Seeing and serving (Matthew 20:20-34) #2: Striving and serving (Luke 10:38-42) #3: Sizing up and serving (Luke 22:24-27) #4: Scandal and serving (Luke 12:35-37) Sometimes outsiders can see more than insiders. God saves by His grace, not by our moral or religious performance. When our serving is a form of striving, we are trying to earn or prove ourselves rather than resting in the finished work of Jesus. Your impact on people around you won’t be determined by the height of your station, but instead by the depth of your service. This is the great scandal of the Gospel: Jesus is joyful to serve us. Sample questions for GCs: If we truly understand who Jesus is, and what he accomplished for us, how will that impact the way we serve others? Read Luke 10:38-42. Martha was serving, but her serving was rooted in self-absorbed striving. She was anxious, irritable, and exhausted. Compare the difference between serving that is driven by anxious striving and serving that is driven by restful trust in the finished work of Jesus. Can you think of a time in your life when someone was a great leader for you, not because they had a title, but because they truly cared for you and served you? The Gospel is scandalous! Jesus, the sinless Savior, loves serving broken sinners like you and me. How does this glorious news make you feel about Jesus? How does believing this Good News help us obey Him?
