Temple: Presence (pt 8)

 • Series: Home | Body | Temple | Bride

Where can God’s presence be found? 1.) Not in a transaction 2.) Not in a spiritual experience 3.) Not in a community John 2:13-25 Revelation 21:22-27 Questions: 1.) Read John 2:16. Jesus was upset that the temple was being reduced to a marketplace. A marketplace is for making transactions. A buyer spends money, and then the vendor owes the buyer a product. Is relationship with God like a transaction - we give some worship and then He owes us the life we want? Why or why not? 2.) Read John 2:23-25. Jesus did not entrust Himself to people, which means He never looked for his identity, worth, or purpose in any person. He only trusted God for that. What dangers may come if we look for God's presence in a person or a community, rather than entrusting ourselves to God alone? 3.) Read Revelation 21:22-27. This passage shows us that Jesus is central to our faith. He is our temple, our light, our reward. How does this beautiful Scripture help you treasure Jesus more as your temple?
