Forgetting our forgiveness (pt 2)

 • Series: Remember: A manual on fighting against falling away

Remember A manual on fighting against falling away A series in 2 Peter This summer we’re working through 2 Peter verse-by-verse. There are 66 books in the Bible, and 2 Peter is #61. It’s only three chapters, and a total of 61 verses. It’s a short New Testament letter, but it packs a punch. This letter is a training manual on how to fight against falling away from faith in Jesus. As for the author: Who is Peter? Peter was one of the 12 apostles who walked with Jesus Christ. He is famously known for denying Jesus 3 times in a row just before the crucifixion. But he repented from that sin, he became the foremost leader of the church in Jerusalem, and ancient church history shows that he was also crucified under the Roman Emperor Nero, about 30 years after the crucifixion of Jesus. Peter has credibility on the topic of falling away. He denied even knowing Jesus 3 times in his hour of greatest need. At the Last Supper, Peter claimed to be Jesus’ closest friend, and then he ran away from all of it. But he returned. In this short letter, Peter uses the word “remind” or “reminder” 3 times. That’s why this series is titled Remember. Forgetting our forgiveness (2 Peter 1:5-11) 1.) Find the problem (Vs. 9) 2.) Feel the problem (Vs. 10-11) 3.) Face the problem (Vs. 5-8) Questions: How does verse 9 help us understand many of our deepest problems? Based on verses 10 & 11, do you think Peter wants us to have a sense of urgency? Notice the list of virtues in verses 5-7. Peter says we must have these in increasing measure. Why don't we "make every effort" as Peter says we must?
