Remember A manual on fighting against falling away A series in 2 Peter This summer we’re working through 2 Peter verse-by-verse. There are 66 books in the Bible, and 2 Peter is #61. It’s only three chapters, and a total of 61 verses. It’s a short New Testament letter, but it packs a punch. This letter is a training manual on how to fight against falling away from faith in Jesus. Peter has credibility on the topic of falling away. He denied even knowing Jesus 3 times in his hour of greatest need. At the Last Supper, Peter claimed to be Jesus’ closest friend, and then he ran away from all of it. But he returned. In this short letter, Peter uses the word “remind” or “reminder” 3 times. That’s why this series is titled Remember. Rescue and reckoning (2 Peter 2:1-12) 1.) The success of false teachers (vs. 1-3) 2.) The future of false teachers (vs. 4-9) 3.) The heart of false teachers (vs. 10-12) Questions: Do the most dangerous forms of false teaching come into the church from the outside, or the inside? Defend your answer from the Scripture in 2 Peter. God uses disasters, suffering, and hardship as moments of both rescue and reckoning. False teachers who don't repent will face a reckoning. Can you think of other stories in the Bible where God rescues some while judging others? According to verses 10-12, what drives the heart of a false teacher?
