Remember A manual on fighting against falling away A series in 2 Peter This summer we’re working through 2 Peter verse-by-verse. There are 66 books in the Bible, and 2 Peter is #61. It’s only three chapters, and a total of 61 verses. It’s a short New Testament letter, but it packs a punch. This letter is a training manual on how to fight against falling away from faith in Jesus. Peter has credibility on the topic of falling away. He denied even knowing Jesus 3 times in his hour of greatest need. At the Last Supper, Peter claimed to be Jesus’ closest friend, and then he ran away from all of it. But he returned. In this short letter, Peter uses the word “remind” or “reminder” 3 times. That’s why this series is titled Remember. Springs without water (2 Peter 2:13-19) We're continuing to study false teachers and how to fight against falling away because of the influence of a false teacher. 1.) Ravenous boldness (vs. 13-14) 2.) Lawless giftedness (vs. 15-16) 3.) False freedom (vs. 17-19) Questions: False teachers are bold about their convictions, even when they go against Scripture. But their boldness is a way of drawing people into their error because they need people to join them in order to feel validated. How is godly boldness different from the boldness of a false teacher? Is someone close to God just because they have great spiritual gifts? Why or why not? Does real freedom look like doing whatever we desire when we want to do it? Or is that actually a form of slavery?
